To the Editor: I write to urge our city council to prioritize funding for youth recreation programs in the upcoming budget. Research consistently shows that communities investing in quality youth programs see reductions in juvenile crime and improvements in academic achievement. Our young people deserve opportunities to develop their talents and interests.
