Police Warn of Phone Scams Targeting Local Residents
Social Security impersonation fraud costs county residents over $50,000.
The Platte County Sheriff's Office is warning residents of a sophisticated phone scam that has targeted numerous Weston residents in recent weeks, resulting in significant financial losses.
Callers, some of whom spoof official government phone numbers, claim to represent the Social Security Administration, the IRS, or other government agencies. They tell victims their accounts have been compromised or that they are subject to legal action, then demand immediate payment or personal information.
